How Does Morpheus8 Work?
Morpheus8 is a fractional radiofrequency (RF) microneedling technology built around an array of ultra-fine, gold-coated microneedles. The gold coating isn’t cosmetic: gold conducts energy with very low resistance, so each needle delivers radiofrequency current into the skin more consistently and precisely than an uncoated needle would, pulse after pulse, while remaining gentle on tissue.
As the needles create tiny, controlled microchannels beneath the skin’s surface, they deliver energy directly into targeted layers of tissue rather than through the skin first, the way surface-level RF devices do. This is what gives Morpheus8 its signature subdermal precision: your provider chooses the exact depth and energy for each area being treated, working through a mechanism InMode describes as ablation, coagulation, and volumetric heating. Yes. Because Morpheus8 delivers radiofrequency energy through insulated microneedles rather than targeting pigment in the skin the way lasers or IPL do, it’s considered appropriate for all Fitzpatrick skin types. As an added precaution, Vessel may recommend a topical hydroquinone regimen before treatment for clients assessed to be at higher risk of post-treatment pigment changes.
Yes, Morpheus8 may improve the appearance of active acne and early acne scarring as the skin heals and remodels. A 2025 Aesthetic Surgery Journal study followed 356 acne patients across isotretinoin, laser, and fractional RF microneedling groups; at 3-year follow-up, the RF microneedling group had a notably lower relapse rate (24%) than the isotretinoin group (67%).
