Lumecca

Advanced IPL Photofacial for Sun Damage & Redness

Lumecca is a high-powered IPL (intense pulsed light) photofacial that targets the visible effects of sun damage, including brown spots, redness, and uneven tone, to reveal clearer, more even-looking skin with no downtime.

At Vessel, every Lumecca treatment is tailored to your skin tone, concerns, and goals, and settings are selected specifically for you rather than run the same way for everyone.

I — How It Works

How Does Lumecca Work?

Lumecca delivers intense pulsed light (IPL), a broad spectrum of light energy, into the skin. Pigment in sun spots and freckles, and hemoglobin in small visible blood vessels, absorbs this light as heat, and the body naturally clears the treated pigment and vessels over the following days and weeks.

Lumecca delivers meaningfully higher peak power per pulse than standard IPL devices, which is why many clients see complete results in as few as one to three sessions rather than the four to six often needed with standard IPL.

III — The Details

Our Lumecca IPL Technology

Lumecca’s IPL applicator is FDA-cleared for the treatment of benign pigmented and vascular skin lesions, including sun-related pigmentation, rosacea-associated redness, and superficial facial veins.

Vessel’s Lumecca uses 515nm and 580nm filters, allowing your provider to target different depths and types of pigment or vessels depending on your skin and the concerns you want addressed.

How Do I Know if Lumecca Is Right for Me?

Lumecca works beautifully for a wide range of concerns on lighter to medium skin tones (Fitzpatrick I through IV), since it targets pigment contrast in the skin. Every Vessel client starts with a full skin assessment, so your provider can confirm Lumecca is the right fit for your skin tone and goals, and recommend the best approach for you at consultation.

    i. Filter and energy selected for your specific skin tone and goals, not a standard setting used for everyone.
ii. A full skin assessment before your first session, so every setting is chosen specifically for your skin and goals.
iii. Every treatment performed personally by a licensed RN.

Lumecca FAQ

Most clients see meaningful improvement in one to three sessions, spaced about three to four weeks apart, though some concerns benefit from a longer series. Your provider will recommend a plan based on your skin and goals at consultation.

Lumecca can significantly improve the appearance of existing sun damage, redness, and pigmentation, but it doesn’t prevent new sun damage or visible vessels from developing over time. Daily sun protection helps results last, and many clients return for an occasional maintenance session to keep their skin looking its best.

Yes. “Photofacial” is a general term for light-based treatments that improve skin tone and texture, and IPL (intense pulsed light) is the specific technology behind it. Lumecca is a high-powered IPL photofacial, using more powerful pulses than standard IPL devices to treat sun damage, redness, and uneven tone in fewer sessions.

Your Lumecca session starts with a brief skin assessment, then protective eyewear and a cooling gel are applied before your provider passes the handpiece over the treatment area, delivering quick pulses of light. Most sessions take about 20 to 30 minutes, and you can return to normal activities immediately afterward, aside from following the sun protection guidance your provider gives you.

Lumecca’s handpiece includes a cooling tip to help keep you comfortable throughout treatment, and most clients describe the sensation as a quick, warm snap, similar to a rubber band flick. Your provider adjusts energy and pacing throughout your session based on your comfort.

Lumecca works best on lighter to medium skin tones (Fitzpatrick I through IV), since it targets pigment contrast in the skin. Every Vessel client gets a full skin assessment at consultation, so your provider can confirm Lumecca is the right fit for your skin tone and goals, and recommend the best approach for you.

No. Lumecca uses IPL, a form of non-ionizing light energy, different from the ionizing radiation associated with cancer risk. IPL devices are FDA-cleared, and there’s no established link between photofacial treatments and skin cancer. Your provider evaluates your skin at consultation and will flag anything that should be looked at by a dermatologist first.

Yes, IPL is a well-studied option for the appearance of facial redness and visible vessels, including redness associated with rosacea. A 2024 systematic review found meaningful reductions in redness across studies, with some reporting up to 80% of patients noticing less redness and meaningful clearance of visible vessels. Results vary by individual, and your provider will assess whether Lumecca fits your specific skin and history.

Lumecca has no real downtime. Your skin may look slightly flushed for a few hours afterward, similar to a mild sunburn, and treated brown spots often look temporarily darker before flaking off naturally over the following one to two weeks. Most clients return to normal activities the same day.

Avoid sun exposure and tanning (including self-tanner) for at least two weeks before and after your Lumecca session, since treating active tan raises the risk of complications. Your provider will go over any other specific guidance for your skin at consultation. See the Lumecca Pre & Post Care guide.

Lumecca uses IPL (intense pulsed light), which delivers a broad spectrum of light in a single pulse and treats pigment and redness together across a larger area at once. Most laser treatments, including Vasculaze, use a single, more focused wavelength suited to one specific concern, like vascular issues. Your provider can help you decide which approach, or combination, fits your skin and goals best.

Lumecca is an IPL treatment that addresses both pigment, like sun spots and freckles, and superficial redness or small vessels together. Vasculaze is a focused 1064nm laser that treats vascular concerns specifically. Your provider can help you decide which one fits your goals best, or whether to combine them, at consultation.

Both improve overall skin quality, but they work differently. Lumecca uses light energy to target pigment and redness sitting in and near the skin’s surface, while microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the skin’s own collagen production to improve texture, tone, and firmness over time. Many clients combine both for a more complete result. Your provider can help you decide which fits your goals, or whether to combine them, at consultation.

Pricing depends on the treatment area and plan built for you at consultation, and can vary with current promotional offers. Vessel also offers payment plans. See current Lumecca pricing, or reach out for exact, up-to-date pricing.
